Provenance |
The Bill Hendrix for Governor political card was found in the book Constitution and Laws of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. Both items were among the donor's grandmother's things. The donor was unaware of these sentiments in his family. The donor's grandmother, Thelma Maxwell (Barfield) Sattler (born 9-25-1899; died 4-10-1990, Blountstown, FL) was from Cairo, GA. She married Mr. Barfield and they had three children- one being the donor's father Bryan Barfield. The donor remembers his step-grandfather, Mr. Ernest Sattler, who was the chef for the FSU student "mess". Thelma and Ernest lived close to campus at 749 West Pensacola Street, at the corner of Lorene and Pensacola. After Ernest died, Thelma rented rooms to students in her house and apartments behind her house. Her renters often stayed for four years. |
